At your office visit, your doctor will discuss your options for surgery based on your evaluation and testing. She will discuss the risks, benefits, and alternatives to each procedure. You will meet with a surgical coordinator in person or by phone to discuss the logistics including date and location of surgery, and postoperative appointments. Your prescription drops to start after surgery will be sent to your pharmacy.
The surgery center will call you the day before surgery to confirm your time of arrival. You will not be able to eat or drink after a certain time in order to allow 6-8 hours of an empty stomach for anesthesia.
When you arrive at the surgery center, you will be checked in and you will receive eye drops. An IV will be started for sedation during surgery. Your doctor will meet you and confirm the eye and procedure. After surgery your doctor will see you and review instructions with you and your family. You will return home on the same day.
Your doctor will see you in the office the next day after surgery. Your restrictions and instructions will be reviewed, as well as your postoperative drop regimen. Your 1-2 week follow up will also be confirmed.
