PhotoRefractive Keratectomy (PRK)

Overview

Laser vision correction is a miraculous and safe procedure for many patients.  The excimer laser is used to reshape the cornea in a precise pattern based on thorough measurements of the eye.  This change in shape allows light to focus clearly into the eye, eliminating the need for glasses or contact lenses.

Laser vision correction can be performed under a corneal flap, allowing faster recovery and less irritation or pain.  This procedure is called LASIK (Laser-Assisted In situ Keratomileusis).  When LASIK is not safe, or patient prefers no flap creation, PRK (PhotoRefractive Keratectomy) is performed by removing the surface epithelium, performing the laser treatment, then placing a bandage contact lens to protect the healing cells.

With expertise in corneal diseases, Dr. Koreishi and Dr. Ple-plakon are thorough and careful in LASIK evaluations.  They perform the preoperative examination and the surgical procedure herself.  Dr. Koreishi and Dr. Ple-plakon will provide post-operative care for one year at no additional charge.  An enhancement, or touch-up, is also included if necessary and safe.  Your eye doctor may refer you to Dr. Koreishi or Dr. Ple-plakon and co-manage, or share the post-operative follow-up care, allowing you to maintain interaction with your own eye doctor throughout the process.

As cornea specialists in DFW, Dallas-Fort Worth, Dr. Koreishi and Dr. Ple-plakon strive to provide the best cornea care, availability, and patient education.
